2022 Quality Improvement Conference

Kendrick Davis, Ph.D.

Associate Dean for Assessment & Evaluation/ Host

Dr. Davis is the Associate Dean for Assessment & Evaluation, and the vice chair of research in the department of Psychiatry & Neuroscience. Dr. Davis joined SOM in 2012 and served as the director of medical education research & evaluation and as co-director of the Longitudinal Ambulatory Clinical Experience (LACE).In addition, he was responsible for the measurement, evaluation and statistical analysis of the UCR medical education program. This is Dr. Davis' sixth year spearheading and funding the quality improvement conference.


Greetings from the Dean

Deborah Deas, MD, MPH

Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences/Dean of the School of Medicine

Dean Deas is the vice chancellor for Health Sciences, the Mark and Pam Rubin dean of the School of Medicine, and professor of psychiatry at the University of California, Riverside (UCR). Since joining UCR, she led the opening of UCR Health which includes primary care and multispecialty clinical services, and under her leadership UCR School of Medicine has expanded its clinical affiliations, increased its National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding, and increased student, staff and faculty diversity.

Nika Harutyunyan, MD

Primary Care Physician, UCLA Health/Quality Champion, DOM Quality

Dr. Harutyunyan is originally from Armenia where she spent most of her childhood until she moved to Los Angeles. She obtained her B.S.in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics with a minor in Russian Literature from UCLA and attended medical school in North Carolina at UNC Chapel Hill. She was happy to return to her second home of Los Angeles and completed her residency at UCLA where she found herself a part of a kind, caring, and evidence-based healthcare team. She went on to be selected as chief resident in Quality and Safety and completed a year in this field before joining on as faculty and remaining part of the Quality Team.

When not practicing medicine, Dr. Harutyunyan enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, and baking.


Student Spotlight

Mutahir Farhan

MD Candidate MS4/UCR School of Medicine

Mutahir Farhan is a fourth year medical student who has received national recognition for his virial presence on the TikTok platform. He believes educational content should be free for all students, regardless of whether they can afford it or not. With 1.2 million followers on Tiktok his educational content continues to educate and inspire many.

Presentation Title: Longitudinal Analysis of Health-Related Videos onTikTok and their Potential Impact on Health Literacy in the IE.

Closing Remarks

Daniel Novak, PhD

Director of Scholarly Activities at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine/Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Medicine Population, and Public Health

His research interests include innovative instructional design in graduate and professional education, health justice education, and promoting undergraduate medical student scholarship. He has published in journals such as academic medicine, IEEE transactions on education, and the British Journal of Medical Education, and taught at the University of Washington and the University of Southern California.
